US Department of Transportation announces its 2007
Summer Transportation Internship Program for Diverse
Groups. The internship period ,from June 4-August 10,
2007, provides hands-on experience and on-the-job
training working on current transportation-related
topics and issues. Applicants must be US citizens
enrolled in degree-granting programs and be juniors or
seniors for the fall of 2007. Applicants must submit a
completed application by December 29, 2006. More

Georgia DOT provides civil engineering Co-op students an
opportunity to complement their classroom knowledge with
"hands-on" experience in a multi-specialty,
transportation-oriented work environment. Co-op students
commit to at least two semesters or quarters of Co-op
employment undertaken on a rotation basis, i.e., Co-op
for a school term, return to school for a term, Co-op
for a second term, etc. Students on internships are paid
on an hourly basis and may be in full-time or part-time
work status. Depending upon interests and coursework
completed, students may choose from a variety of
professional civil engineering work areas.

Internships in Seattle with DK Associates
What does it take to be a Transportation Professional?
DKS offers a hands-on opportunity for you to apply your
classroom knowledge through a paid internship. DKS
Associates, a leading transportation engineering/planning
firm, is seeking a highly motivated intern to work 20- 40
hours per week for its Seattle office. You will collaborate
with our professional staff to assist with current projects
and obtain range of experience in traffic engineering and
transportation planning. You will provide technical
assistance on projects (i.e. conduct fieldwork, data
collection, technical analysis, etc.).
Typical assignments would include the following:
- Use of Synchro and Sim Traffic for the analysis of
traffic signal operations
- Use of AutoCad to assist with traffic signal and
intelligent transportation systems design and drafting
- Perform field observations for traffic analysis ·
Collect existing field conditions data for design and
analysis
- Compile and analyze field data
- Prepare memorandums summarizing analysis work
- Prepare cost estimates for design work
To excel as an Intern, you should have strong writing and
communications skills, general knowledge of traffic
engineering and planning,. Additional knowledge or training
in transportation software (i.e. Traffix, HCS, Synchro, etc)
is a plus. Applicants must be civil engineering students who
have completed their junior year of studies (minimum).
