We pride
ourselves on a strong graduate program in transportation
engineering that provides graduate (and undergraduate)
students with a broad range of practical and real-life
educational experiences in transportation. Our
faculty and students engage in research to solve
challenging, practical, and relevant transportation
problems that have regional and national significance.

We are
especially proud of the way in which we have integrated
undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty on teams
that produce innovative technology and new knowledge.
Many of these teams are part of our College of
Engineering senior design and graduate research programs
in which interdisciplinary groups of students and
faculty develop prototypes, extend these prototypes
through research and development, and license the
products to industry.
The University of Idaho awarded 74
graduate degrees over the past five years in
professional fields closely related to highways and
public transportation, averaging 15 per year.
Graduate Assistantships
Before we
can consider financial assistance for any potential
student, that student must complete the application
process to become a graduate student at the University
of Idaho to indicate a true interest in studying here.
In fact, decisions for financial support are made on a
competitive basis, usually based on the student's
performance in their first semester in the program.
There are
exceptions for highly qualified students, but you MUST
apply to and be accepted for admission to the university
before you can be considered for financial aid.
Qualified students, with above average preparation, who
exhibit a serious intent to attend the university and
whose interests match the funding opportunities
available, may be offered financial assistance in the
form of teaching or research assistantships. The
university's application for admission can be completed
on-line.
