FAQs

Housing

Participants live in the Living Learning Communities (LLC), in single rooms. Sheets are supplied. One towel is provided; some past students suggest bringing your own, big, fluffy towel (and washcloths) if you want something more luxurious than dorm towels! Each room has a telephone and air-conditioning. You may want to bring a radio or other source for music. You will have access to email from NIATT's Traffic Laboratory. If to make your travel more affordable, you choose to come on Saturday, August, let us know so we can make special arrangements for you. All participants are expected to leave the residence hall on Saturday unless special arrangements are made.

Meals

You will receive a meal ticket to be used for breakfasts, lunches, and the evening meals, Monday through Friday, at different places on campus. Sunday evening will be a picnic/barbeque on the lawn outside the Engineering Physics building (see map). Friday night, there will be a closing dinner and closing ceremony in the Commons.

Clothing

It's summer! Casual! August in Moscow is usually nice and hot, but not humid. The temperatures does drop in the evening, so you may want to bring a sweater for evenings outside. Although the Engineering Physics Building is air-conditioned, it can be especially warm when you're in the traffic lab because of all the equipment. Be comfortable!  Check out the view on the UI webcam.

Materials

All supplied for you!

In Case of Emergencies

Feel free to give your family and friends the NIATT telephone and fax numbers for use during normal (PDT) business hours! We'll get the message to you! [phone: 208-885-0576; fax: 208-885-2877]

Recreation

The campus is only a few blocks away from a shopping mall and a downtown area with movies, bookstores, etc. Those interested can purchase a weekly pass ($5) to use the ASUI Kibbie Activity Center [racquetball courts; weight room; tennis courts; cardiovascular equipment, and universal equipment.] Those who prefer swimming can purchase a weekly pass ($5) to use the Swim Center and the Memorial Gym.

Insurance

All participants are covered by UI Camp Accident Insurance.

Getting to Moscow

There is a local (very small!!) airport (Moscow-Pullman). The nearest international airport is in Spokane, Washington (GEG). Reservations can be made with Wheatland Express Spokane Airport Shuttle (800-334-2207) to bring you from the airport to Moscow [ask for drop off at St. Augustine Church, only three blocks away from the Living/Learning Center].

You should plan on arriving sometime Sunday afternoon--we'll begin with a get-acquainted picnic, where you'll receive the week's schedule. The workshop will begin promptly at 8 am on Monday. The final group activity will be Friday evening. Plan to check out of your room on Saturday unless you have made previous arrangements.

If you plan on flying, you should book your flight as soon as possible to assure the least expensive travel and a schedule that fits your needs.

Please let us know your travel plans. If you fly into the Moscow-Pullman airport, we can have someone meet you. If you fly into Spokane, Washington, or Lewiston, Idaho, you need to make your own arrangements. [Taxis service from Lewiston to Moscow is available].

Getting Around

You will not need a car while you are here. Moscow, Idaho, is pretty small, and you can easily walk to the center of town and to the nearby mall. Transportation involving workshop activities will be provided. If you do bring a car, you will be able to park free near the Living/Learning Center.
