Welcome back!
Hard to believe that it's already time
to welcome our students to a new academic year, rewarding
research and fun events. This year is an exciting one for
NIATT as we enter our fifteenth year of existence!
At the urging of Mike, I've established
this little blog as a means of communicating with NIATT
research faculty! [Students--read Judy's blog for you!] So,
here are some important reminders for August and early
September and an announcement of a
contest! |
Appointment of Students
Time to appoint new students (deadline for me is August
22 for students whose appointments begin either August 13 or
August 20).
You need to tell me
- Name of student
- Budget number
- Salary (I prefer hourly)
- Hourly or graduate student (full-time: 40 hrs/biwk.;
half-time: 20 hrs/biwk.)
- If grad, are you paying fees and or insurance?
If the student has never worked on campus before, they
should come and see me as soon as possible. International
students should be sent to Human Resources.
Note: Students' tuition can be paid only from the
budget from which they receive salary and in the same
proportion. |
Credit/Purchasing Card Use
Students who are working for you can use one of NIATT's
credit cards ONLY AFTER you send me an
email informing me
they have your authority to make purchases. They will have
to sign paperwork required by the University and become
familiar with NIATT's Credit Card
Set-Up of New UTC Grants
For those of you who have had your proposals approved for
year 9 UTC funding, I will be reviewing your proposed
budgets. If I have questions/comments, I will contact you.
Since your dollar amounts have been approved, I will request
that the budgets be set up as soon as possible by OSP, so
your timely response to any questions will help. I will
appoint your new students as soon as the budgets are in
place; however, no further expenses will be allowed until
you receive final approval of your revised proposals.

from the NCATT Focus to printed copies of NIATT TECH BRIEF
and NIATT Focus to totally online versions of the TECH BRIEF
and Focus.
It's time for a change! We're going to combine both
newsletters into one electronic version and we need a new
name: inviting and eliciting, informing
and entertaining, internal and external,
inspiring and exciting, i.e., something
innovative and evocative.

There will be a prize for the worst name, so don't
hesitate! The deadline is 3 p.m., August 21, 2006. Winners
need not be present when the name is chose, but must be able
