assignment 16

During the next three weeks, we will be learning to use the components of the four-step travel demand forecasting model.  The first step in this process is to prepare a data base with the network characteristics and the trip generation data.

Please complete the following tasks.

  1. Prepare a trip generation data base with zonal data, household data, and employment data for the area that is represented by the nine zone system.  Use the trip generation production equations given in Table 6 (page 35) of your notes on “Travel Estimation Techniques” for urban areas 50,000 to 199,999 (weighted average household size).  Use the trip attraction equations given on page 36 (Table 7).  Only use the CBD equation, not the non-CBD equations.  Also, use all three trip purposes: home-based work, home-based other, and non-home based.

  1. Prepare a set of data describing the network link characteristics, including the two nodes specifying each link, the link distance, and the link speed.  Use the xy coordinates from the network to compute the link distances.
  2. Balance the productions and attractions.
