Assignment  07

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to produce an analysis of the field data that you collected so that you can determine the proportion of traffic traveling eastbound on Sixth Street is through traffic and the proportion that is local traffic (with destinations along Sixth Street)..

Analysis

  1. Obtain a copy of the electronic files for each of the four data collection stations.
  2. Assemble the data for each of the four stations into one spreadsheet.
  3. Sort the data for each station using the spreadsheet "sort" function.
  4. For each "origin station", identify possible matches for each "destination station".  Stations 1, 2, and 3 should each be considered to be origin stations.  A match is assumed if a vehicle at the origin station is identified at the destination station.
  5. Compute the "number of matches" and the "percentage of origin station vehicles matched at destination station".
  6. Conduct an error analysis.  List possible error types and briefly discuss each and how it might affect your results.  Discuss how you can minimize the effect of each error type.
  7. Prepare a group report that summarizes your work.  The report should be five pages, maximum, and include the following sections: (a) problem statement, (b) methodology, analysis, and results, and (c) conclusions.
  8. The assignment is due on Monday, September 24 for Moscow students and Monday, October 1 for video students.
