What is IMAP's Role and Research Interests?

The Institute for Materials and Advanced Processes (IMAP) was founded in 1989 and is one of six interdisciplinary research units at the University of Idaho.  IMAP's research is funded through various organizations such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and Department of Energy.  This funding supports stipends and fees for graduate students in master thesis dissertation research programs, along with state of the art equipment.

  • IMAP is the primary research unit in the Idaho system of higher education promoting the use of advanced materials and processes, such as titanium.

  • IMAP assists in the building and strengthening of programs found in material science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics and chemistry departments.

  • IMAP research activities concentrate on Graduate and Postdoctoral research programs, but include a significant component of undergraduate research participation.
