Originally from Breckenridge, Minnesota, JR Van Tassel has been an integral part of the Idaho T2 Advisory Board for the past year.  After graduating from Lewiston High School JR served four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. 

After graduating from Lewiston-Clarkston State College (LCSC) with degrees in History and Social Science, JR decided that wasn’t where the money was!  Twenty-seven years in the bar/restaurant business, owning his own called “Campbell’s Corner” for seventeen of those years. 

After selling the business JR purchased rental properties, which he still manages.  Now in his eighth year as the Nez Perce County Commissioner, JR has become more and more involved in the transportation world.  He also serves as the chairman of the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) – and chairs the Idaho Association of Counties (IAC) Transportation Committee.  He was a member of the Lewiston City Council for seven years, as well as serving   6 yrs. on the IAC Legislative Committee.

As you can see, JR Van Tassel has led a busy and interesting life and we’re glad to have him as a part of the T2 Center Advisory Board.  His goals for the Advisory Board and T2 Center are to help enhance the delivery system for training, as well as increase the amount of training available to local jurisdictions.  JR would also like to see continued collaboration with LHTAC.

JR is also an avid hunter and fisherman, and frequently partakes in enjoying the great outdoor opportunities in Idaho.
