About the ENVIRONMENTAL BMP Workshop: This course is a Road Master Core for Level II of the Road Scholar Program. CEUs are available upon request, at least 3 weeks prior to the class. This workshop introduces the environmental issues that confront local highway jurisdictions while performing routine maintenance operations on the rural roads of Idaho. The class reviews and discusses the various maintenance operations and the forces of nature that can impact the environment. The various impacts will be identified along with potential techniques and procedures that will lessen the impacts of the operations on the sensitive environment around us. Module one introduced the various federal and state agencies with whom we will be working, identifying their areas of responsibility as well as providing the student with definitions of commonly used terms. Module Two discusses the natural forces and sources of sedimentation and other pollutants that need to concern our operations in the field. Module Three addresses the maintenance procedures that will assist in reducing these impacts on the airways, waterways and wetlands that we enjoy in Idaho. A copy of Best Management Practices for Idaho Rural Road Maintenance will be referenced and provided to each agency. Who Should Attend? All local agency personnel who supervise or perform work on the rural roads of Idaho should attend. This course is designed not only to provide information about the rules and recommended practices, but also to discuss other successful operations and techniques that are being used across the state. Anyone working with roadways with drainage and culverts, rivers and streams, wetlands, or upland forests will be able to benefit from this class. |
