LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The overall objectives of the class are, (i) to develop a physical understanding of fluid flow for a variety of situations and, (ii) to learn to perform a literature search and an analysis that are beneficial to the objectives of a project.  Learn the words, the concepts, and/or the analytical problem solving skills of fluid dynamics in the following areas:

  1. External flow over objects.  Inviscid flow, boundary layers, and flow separation.  Learn to construct and understand velocity vector plots, streamline plots, and pressure contour plots.

  2. Scaling of flows.  Example: low Reynolds number flow.

  3. Turbulent flow

  4. Open Channel flow

  5. TBA
