Course Description The objective of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and tools to design basic reinforced concrete structures. The course will cover flexure, shear, bond, and serviceability considerations for the design of beams, columns, and slabs. This course will use the strength design method in accordance with the American Concrete Institute code (ACI 318)

Exams There will be several exams during the semester.  The final exam will be comprehensive.
Labs/Projects There will be several labs or projects assigned during the semester.  These projects will require written reports and/or group presentations.

Homework Guidelines
  • All work shall be on time. Homework is due at the beginning of the class period. Late homework will not necessarily receive full credit.

  • Engineering Outreach students are expected to complete homework assignments within one week of receipt of the DVD/tape for class period in which the homework was assigned.

  • All hand written work shall be done on engineering computation paper.

  • For all work, both the problem statement and the solution should be clearly and concisely stated.

  • All computations should be presented in a clear and consecutive fashion.

  • Each page shall be numbered consecutively. Your name, course number and date shall be included on each sheet.

  • All numerical values, given or calculated, shall include the appropriate units.

  • All answers shall be indicated by double underlining.

  • Homework sheets shall be stapled together and NOT folded.

  • All sketches shall be neatly drawn.

  • All homework not conforming to the above standards shall be returned without credit.
