The annual conference of the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Society for Engineering Education (PN-ASEE) is scheduled for April 26-28, 2007. Hosted by Washington State University, this conference is planned to bring together educators to collaboratively advance engineering and technology education across the region. The conference will be held in conjunction with the Washington Council for Engineering and Related Technical Education (WCERTE) to facilitate interactions across two-year and four-year institutions in the Northwest.

Two concurrent panel sessions are being planned to bring a variety of perspectives on topics related to student transfer issues and to the advancement of engineering education scholarship. Some panelists are still being confirmed, so your suggestions are welcome here. Input from discussions of educational scholarship will be concluded by a breakout session to develop a plan of action for advancing engineering education scholarship across the region.

 Two blocks of time are set aside on Friday for paper presentations on educational topics. As needed, a session Saturday morning will provide additional opportunities for presenters.

Year of Dialogue
Talking about Engineering Education

The highly successful plenary session at the ASEE 2006 Annual Conference in Chicago launched the beginning of a year of dialogue (YOD) among the ASEE membership. The session was entitled "If you have a Ph.D. in engineering, must you be able to teach it?"  The objective of YOD discussions is to engage a broad sector of ASEE membership in defining "what we should teach and how should we teach to produce engineers who will be leaders in the global community."  Special emphasis in these discussions will be given to the role of the "Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Engineering Education" in identifying and implementing best practices for student learning.  We are planning a special session at the ASEE Pacific Northwest Section Meeting on April 27th as our part of the YOD.  In the meantime, you can stay abreast of discussions occuring across the country on the web blog located at http://dialogue.asee.org.
